Dlaczego warto szczepić pacjentów ze schorzeniami układu sercowo-naczyniowego?

Podsumowanie

Wyszliśmy od rozważań ogólnych, omówiliśmy dokładniej grypę, odchodzącą nieco w cień w czasach pandemii nowej choroby zakaźnej – COVID-19, do której również nawiązaliśmy. Konkluzja ma jednak charakter ogólny. Szczepienia są naszą cywilizacyjną zdobyczą, absolutnie przełomowym wydarzeniem w historii medycyny. To, czego dotychczas uczyliśmy się z książek i opowieści starszych kolegów i koleżanek – o dawnych epidemiach grypy, ospy wietrznej, odry, polio – dziś dzieje się na naszych oczach. Na nowo możemy odkryć, jak szczepienie, tym razem przeciwko COVID-19, zmienia przebieg pandemii w skali świata. Być może przed nami kolejne fale. Jako zaszczepiony personel medyczny stawimy im jednak czoło bez dojmującego lęku o życie swoje i najbliższych. I z całą pewnością naszym rodzinom, naszym pacjentom, zwłaszcza tym obciążonym schorzeniami układu sercowo-naczyniowego, będziemy zalecać szczepienia przeciwko COVID-19, grypie, pneumokokom i innym patogenom, jeśli będą ku temu przesłanki kliniczne.

ABSTRACT

Why is it worth vaccinating patients with cardiovascular diseases?

The question in the title seems to be rhetorical. Unfortunately, as the events of the recent months show, the activity of anti-vaccination movements is increasingly more aggressive. The authors of the article try to remind once again why cardiovascular diseases and infections are a dangerous combination. The paper includes references to some key studies on influenza and effectiveness of vaccines as well as the existing guidelines and experts’ recommendations. Finally, the authors attempt to discuss the problem in the context of the ongoing pandemic. Only knowledge and experience can relieve fear and anxiety surrounding vaccinations.
