Abstract
Influenza in the 75+ population. Differences in the presentation, risk of hospitalization and complications, exacerbation of chronic diseases, and cognitive disorders
Influenza has been overshadowed by the coronavirus in the recent months, but it is worth taking the time to consider certain aspects of this disease. Vaccination against influenza is highly recommended, especially for the elderly. This patient population most often requires hospitalization and their prognosis is frequently unfavorable. This paper discusses the problem of comorbidities and some differences in the clinical presentation of the infection. The paper also provides an overview of the latest data on reducing the risk of dementia in people vaccinated against influenza.
