Karmienie piersią jako profilaktyka infekcji – o przeciwciałach poszczepiennych w mleku matki

Do zadań lekarzy, a przede wszystkim lekarzy podstawowej opieki zdrowotnej oraz lekarzy ginekologów i położników, należą uświadomienie pacjentkom potencjalnych korzyści wynikających z wakcynacji kobiet w ciąży i karmiących piersią, a także informowanie ich o możliwości wykonania szczepień. Działania te mogą uchronić dziecko oraz matkę przed potencjalnym ryzykiem ciężkich powikłań chorób zakaźnych.

ABSTRACT

Breastfeeding to prevent infection – antibody responses after breastfeeding by immunized mothers

It is well known that antibodies in breast milk actively support the baby’s immune system. Immaturity of the immune system of infants, particularly in the first 6 months of life, increases the incidence of many infectious diseases. Vaccination of pregnant and nursing mothers can therefore protect newborns and infants, who are too young to be vaccinated. This article summarizes current knowledge regarding the presence of vaccine antibodies in breast milk with a view to developing promising approaches to enhance immunity in the neonate. Many studies have shown the presence of vaccine antibodies in breast milk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and several health professional organizations have recommended vaccinating pregnant and lactating women, especially against influenza and pertussis. Current data also support the protective effect of breastfeeding on neonates whose mothers have been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2.
