ABSTRACT
Diabetic foot syndrome is the leading cause of lower limb amputation in Poland. Diabetic polyneuropathy is a main risk factor of diabetic foot. Deformity, peripheral artery disease, minor trauma, previous foot wound, and/or a prior amputation are the others. The critical triad most commonly seen in patients with diabetic foot ulcers: peripheral sensory neuropathy, deformity, and trauma. Successful treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, constantly for years, consists of three basic issues: debridement, offloading, and infection control. Proper diabetes management and careful foot care can help prevent foot ulcers and reduce the risk of amputation.
