ABSTRACT
Botulinum toxin-based treatment for gummy smile – case report
A “gummy” smile, where there is excessive display of the gums while smiling, is a common aesthetic problem that may adversely affect one’s self-confidence and social interactions. This case report describes the correction of a gummy smile with Azzalure (botulinum toxin A). Botulinum toxin type A turned out to be a low-invasive therapeutic option providing temporary improvement through neuromuscular blockade of upper lip levators. The aesthetic effects were symmetrical and satisfactory for the patient. No complications or adverse effects were noted. The therapeutic effect remained stable at 4 weeks.
