• U dzieci urodzonych przed planowym terminem porodu istnieje znacznie zwiększone ryzyko wystąpienia deficytów okulistycznych. Rozwój ogólny tych dzieci w znaczącym stopniu skorelowany jest z ROP i współistniejącymi chorobami okresu perinatalnego.

• Dzieci urodzone przedwcześnie wymagają regularnych obowiązkowych badań, ponieważ w każdym roku życia mogą pojawić się nowe bądź nasilić istniejące problemy zdrowotne.
