Podsumowanie
ABSTRACT
Do we know how to boost immunity in children?
There are numerous drugs available commercially that are advertised by manufacturers as immunity boosters. However, few of them possess effectiveness confirmed in EBM-compliant tests. The function of the human immune system is influenced by factors that determine an individual’s general health. Strong evidence of efficacy of supplementation in the pediatric population in reducing the incidence of infections is only available for vitamin D3. There are some promising results concerning other substances, but further research is required. Undoubtedly, the most effective method of preventing respiratory disease is vaccination against seasonal influenza and pneumococci, and, more recently, against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It should be emphasized that recurrent chronic atypical recalcitrant severe infections clearly require diagnostic work-up to exclude a primary immunodeficiency.
