Abstract
Oral thrush
The oral cavity is a diverse environment with a number of ecological niches. A wide range of microorganisms reside in the mouth, including bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa. Most of them are saprophytic organisms that form a complex ecological community. When the physiological balance in the mouth is disturbed, an infection may develop. Oral candidiasis is one of the most common opportunistic infections of the oral mucosa. It is caused by Candida albicans and other species of the Candida genus. This paper presents the most important information on the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of oral candidiasis.
