ABSTRACT
Quality of life in endometriosis
Endometriosis is the most common gynaecological disorder, affecting 10% of women in the general population. For many patients, it becomes a chronic condition, impacting their lives due to uncontrolled pain and impaired fertility leading to emotional problems. The quality of life of endometriosis sufferers is thus an important problem necessitating extensive research on the impact of endometriosis on overall mental and physical functioning of the patients.
This article quotes the results of multicentre clinical trials, randomised controlled studies as well as reviews and comparative studies. The most popular and universally accepted scales for evaluating the quality of life in endometriosis sufferers are accounted for. These scales allow for comparing pain in endometriosis sufferers and in the general population and comparing the quality of life of endometriosis patients and those suffering from other medical conditions.
