ABSTRACT
Vaccination in patients with abnormal complete blood count or other haematological abnormalities
Vaccinations are one of the most important and effective ways of preventing infections. They are characterized by considerable safety. Nevertheless, vaccination is an issue of concern to many caregivers. Complete blood count (CBC) is a test commonly performed for medical indications, but also at the request of parents. Any irregularities detected raise doubts about the advisability of vaccination among both parents and doctors. The paper presents the indications and lack of indications for haematological testing in children qualified for active immunization, and the rules of vaccination when abnormalities are detected in a CBC including the WBC differential count. The current guidelines on preventive vaccinations in children with known haematological conditions are also presented.
