ABSTRACT
The current guidelines for the management of cardiogenic shock
Despite the progress in the diagnosis and management of acute coronary syndromes, treatment of cardiogenic shock, one of the most dangerous complications of acute coronary syndrome, continues to present a serious challenge. While the incidence of cardiogenic shock seems to be on the decrease, the rate of mortality associated with cardiogenic shock remains high (40-50% risk of death in the short-term follow-up period). Importantly, the specificity of cardiogenic shock makes it difficult to conduct large randomized trials aimed at assessing the usefulness of various new technologies and strategies for treatment of cardiogenic shock. As a result, even though a significant part of the recommendations for the management of cardiogenic shock is based on small studies and expert opinions, it seems crucial to implement these recommendations in everyday clinical practice. This paper discusses the current guidelines for the management of cardiogenic shock.
