ABSTRACT
Positive and Trancultural Psychotherapy in therapy of adults
Positive and Trancultural Psychotherapy (PPT after Peseschkian, since 1977) is a recognised meta-theoretical modality developed in Germany in 1968, accredited by the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) and The World Council for Psychotherapy (WCP). The framework of this approach provides a useful therapeutic solution to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties with proven efficacy of use in different cultures (Tritt et al., 1997; Peseschkian & Tritt, 1998). Concepts such as basic and secondary capacities, which enable the comprehension and description of intra- and interpersonal conflict dynamics within the same conceptual framework, apply to all well-known settings of the psychotherapeutic process: individual, group, family therapy etc.
This article introduces the main aspects of PPT: a positive conception of human nature, a holistic view, the use of stories and anecdotes, conceptualisation of conflicts and inclusion of the systemic dimension in the therapeutic process. The different tools of this approach are explained and discussed, including from a transcultural perspective.
