Abstract
Mobile applications in support of diabetes management and self-monitoring of blood glucose using a glucose meter
The supportive use of new technologies in the management of diabetes is increasingly common and has been incorporated into recommendations of diabetic associations. In Poland, patients can use smartphone applications with a variety of features related to diet control, self-monitoring of blood glucose levels, promoting physical activity and providing patient education. It has been demonstrated that the use of mobile applications helps to improve metabolic balance in diabetic patients. This paper provides a review of diabetes applications available in the Polish language version that are designed to support self-monitoring of blood glucose levels. Of particular help to diabetic patients is wireless data transmission between a glucose meter and the patient’s smartphone. Educating patients on the use of mobile applications and the optimal utilization of treatment data should be considered a cornerstone of any modern diabetes management strategy.
