Abstract
The 2024 WHO guidelines on chronic hepatitis B
In March 2024, World Health Organization (WHO) released updated guidelines on hepatitis B (HBV) infection. This nearly 185-page document provides detailed information on the prevention, diagnosis and management of patients with chronic HBV infection. The key priority areas highlighted in the guidelines include providing better access to treatment and non-invasive diagnostic methods for liver fibrosis, offering treatment to pregnant women with HBV infection, utilizing point-of-care (POC) diagnostic procedures for HBV and HDV, and simplifying access to healthcare services. These guidelines are intended for authorities responsible for developing national HBV testing and treatment programs and serve as a foundation for patient care.
