Abstract
The EAACI guidelines for the management of IgE-mediated food allergy across different age groups
The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) guidelines provide recommendations for the management of IgE-mediated food allergy. Once the diagnosis of IgE-mediated food allergy is confirmed, the patient should be urged to avoid allergens and to follow a proper dietary regimen (with support of a specialized dietitian, if possible) as well as be provided with a written treatment plan and education on how to recognize allergic symptoms and use an adrenaline auto-injector. Patients experiencing significant anxiety and requiring coping strategies can benefit from support from a clinical psychologist. As far as immunomodulatory interventions are concerned, omalizumab is suggested for treating IgE-mediated food allergy in adults and children older than 1 year, and oral allergen-specific immunotherapy is recommended for children and adolescents with peanut allergy as well as milk and egg allergies (generally for children older than 4 years of age in the case of milk and egg allergies).
